Trips

School trips are a great opportunity to learn outside the classroom in new, interesting and practical ways. They offer a huge range of benefits for our children and although we link our trips with our curriculum learning, the benefits are not purely academic. We believe that a school trip can be a truly formative experience for our children’s personal and social development too. Trips form an integral part of our Green Lane Infant School experience, and each child at our school can expect to have at least two outside visits per year.

Below are a selection of the current trips that are planned for our children. These are subject to change and often our children have additional opportunities that are offered throughout their time with us.

Nursery ReceptionYear OneYear Two
Walk around the local area
Stonehurst Farm with parents
Church Visit
Rutland Water
Houghton on the Hill School and Church at Christmas
Hindu Temple Visit
Quorn Railway and steam train
Botanical Gardens
Mosque Visit
Beaumanor Hall
Space Centre (Residential Opportunity)

As we value the importance of trips, we significantly subsidise the cost of trips and transport in each year group to reduce the voluntary contribution asked of parents.

Children in receipt of Pupil Premium funding have their trip funded through our pupil premium grant.

Some of the benefits from trips include:

Reinforcement-

We allow the children to experience first hand what they have/ or will be learning about in class as this helps the children to make links and supports storage of key information in their long term memory.

Relationships-

Children share new experiences with their friends and build teamwork, courage and respect- three of our key school values. Children enjoy the time outside of the classroom with their teacher and friends and we find that they ask lots of questions and love to tell us all about themselves and their previous experiences.

Confidence-

Children are experiencing new environments, cultures and landscapes which builds upon their cultural capital and their understanding of the world around them. This is one of our curriculum drivers- local and global community- so children are aware of themselves and their place in the wider world and modern Britain.

School visits also contribute to:

  • Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural understanding
  • British Values (particularly respect and tolerance)
  • PSHE
  • Visual literacy of the environment (beyond school and its environments)
  • Deeper, more nuanced learning
  • Engaging with the best that has been thought, said and built.

A school visit –

  • Sows seeds for the future
  • Extends our children’s opportunities and aspirations
  • Strengthens mental well being and fitness
  • Enhances self esteem and resilience
