Our Student and Eco Governors

My name is Mrs. Waddington and I have the joy of working with our wonderful student governors. Each year, our student governors are elected by their peers following an election campaign. This allows children to develop their understanding of democracy and how this is a fundamental part of our society in Britain. Our Student Governors then get to work with myself and other members of staff through the year on key issues for our school and local community. In the past 3 years our Student Governors have helped raise money for the Charity Whizz Kidz by helping to organise a mini marathon, they have helped select new menu options for our school dinners and they have worked hard to find out what their peers would like to do at lunch time and write to Mrs. Conway asking for new playground activities. Last year, following a focus on our curriculum driver of opportunities and aspirations we were able to organise a visit from the Leicester Riders. At Green Lane Infant School, we really value the voice of the children. Even at this young age our children are learning that they can have a voice and that their opinion matters.

Our Student Governors

Green Lane Infant school is proud to be an active member of the Eco School network. We wish to empower the young people within our school to make their school environment more sustainable whilst increasing their environmental learning.

Our Eco-Committee will be meeting this academic year to complete an environmental review of our school, plan and deliver our environmental projects. Our aim is to inspire fellow students and educate our wider school community with actions that will benefit all.

Last academic year we were fortunate to be involved in the WWF Leicester’s Urban Nature Project. The children thoroughly enjoyed being involved in such an important project. Learning how to encourage wildlife into our school grounds to help our local environment, reinforcing the message, “Think globally, act locally.”

We created a fantastic bug hotel, wildflower area and installed bat, bird and insect boxes around the school. Please see the video link below to see the amazing work the children achieved, an achievement that they should be incredibly proud of!
